A union that represents 600 nurses and other healthcare workers at Shasta Regional Medical Center will hold a one-day strike. The California Nurses Association/Caregivers and Healthcare Employees Union is striking at several facilities owned by Prime Healthcare, including in Los Angeles, Anaheim and Reno. The employees at Shasta Regional have been working without a new contract since last August while the union has been in negotiations for higher staffing levels, which they say are necessary for patient safety. The 24 hour strike will begin at 6 O’clock Thursday morning, with a rally at 12:30PM that afternoon. The union gave the hospital ten days notice of the strike to allow them to make alternate plans for patient care.
