A union that represents 600 nurses and other healthcare workers at Shasta Regional Medical Center will hold a strike Thursday. The California Nurses Association/Caregivers and Healthcare Employees Union is striking at several facilities owned by Prime Healthcare. The employees at Shasta Regional have been working without a new contract since last Summer while the union has been in negotiations for higher staffing levels, which they say are necessary for patient safety. A rally will be held at Noon next to the hospital on Butte Street, followed by a two hour picket. This action follows a 24 hour strike done in February that apparently did not achieve the desired effect.
