Shasta County officials are warning people with CalFresh EBT cards not to fall for a door to door phishing scam that’s being reported to law enforcement. Someone knocks at the door and says they’re a representative of the CalFresh program and asks to see the resident’s EBT card, California Drivers License or identification card and Social Security Card. They say it’ll make the person eligible for a gift. The Health and Human Services Agency says they will never ask for that information at someone’s home. Such documents would only be requested inside a county office while screening for eligibility. Most of the targeted victims have been seniors. Anyone who suspects that their benefits have been stolen should report it immediately.
