Politics as displayed recently may not seem like much fun, but local high school students have a chance to have real influence in actual government decision-making by becoming members of the Shasta County Board of Education. The opportunity has been offered since 2006 to students who want to gain an understanding of educational systems and the inner workings of government decision-making. The student board members have the authority to make motions and cast preferential votes, and are expected to prepare for and attend monthly board meetings. Those who will be Juniors or Seniors in the Fall can apply by March 27th at shastacoe.org.
