The Shasta County Sheriffs Office is reporting a death in the jail. On Tuesday at approximately 4:27AM, Correctional Deputies were conducting routine welfare checks and discovered an unresponsive inmate in their cell. Staff immediately began life saving efforts and the subject was transported to a local hospital where they were declared deceased at 5:20AM. The inmate is identified as 53-year-old Tina Marie Elrite. Her next-of-kin has been notified, and a postmortem examination will be scheduled. There are no signs of foul play. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation with the assistance of the Redding Police Department’s Detective Division due to this being an in-custody death.
