A small invasive mosquito called “Aedes Aegypti” has flourished in Shasta County. It’s very aggressive, is comfortable flying in the daytime, and can breed in a water vessel as small as a bottlecap. Its eggs can lay dormant and dry for years until rehydration brings them back to a hatchable state. Unlike some other local mosquitoes, the Aegis Aegypti does not carry West Nile Virus. To fight all types of mosquitoes, it’s important for local residents to eliminate standing water around their yards.
