A man has been arrested in the killing of his neighbor who disappeared nearly five years ago. According to the Sheriffs Office, James Redmill Sr. was reported missing in July of 2021 after family members from Washington State traveled to his home in the Trinity Alps Preserve area because neighbors had not seen him for several days. The case was first investigated by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit but detectives were unable to find enough evidence to solve it at the time. In April, detectives reopened the investigation after getting new information that Redmill may have been killed and buried on nearby property owned by 55-year old Nicholas Allen Beery of Igo. On Tuesday, detectives and several law enforcement teams served a search warrant at Beery’s home. Investigators found buried human remains behind the residence. They were later identified as Redmill. Beery was arrested on suspicion of homicide, along with drug and firearm charges.detectives also requested special allegations, including use of a firearm causing death and lying in wait.
