Investigators Say Hot Drug Pipe Sparked Vegetation Fire Late Wednesday

When fire officials warn of the dangers of hot pipes in dry grass, they’re generally referring to automobile tailpipes, but it was a different kind of pipe that started a fire in Redding Wednesday night. At around 10:30PM, Redding Fire Department was dispatched to the Nur-Pon Open Space along the Sacramento River south of the Cypress Avenue Bridge. They found a vegetation fire that had burned about one-and-a-half acres. Crews had the fire contained in about 10 minutes. Investigators determined the fire had started from hot drug paraphernalia that had been set down in dry vegetation.
