A judge has denied a request to halt a water release plan by the Bureau of Reclamation. Two environmental advocacy groups had filed for an injunction against the Fall release schedule from Shasta Dam, saying it disregards the maintenance of river temperatures essential for the survival of Winter Run Chinook Salmon. The Bureau and other Federal agencies adhere to a different interpretation of the Endangered Species Act, as they say they strive to balance wildlife with the needs of their water contractors to the south. The Center for Biological Diversity, San Francisco Baykeeper and Friends of the River say they’ll appeal the ruling.
