A Butte County man is accused of murdering his mother. Deputies responded for a suspicious medical call Monday night at a home on Obermeyer Avenue in Gridley. They found 55-year-old Veronica Avalos De Cardenas deceased. The scene was processed and evidence suggested that the woman had been physically assaulted and murdered by her son, 32-year-old Hugo Cardenas. He was arrested later in the night by police in Stockton and was returned to Butte County to be booked for murder.
