Man Drowns At Lake Shasta After Trying To Rescue Dog

A Redding man drowned at Lake Shasta Friday morning, according to Boating Safety Deputies. A boat was moving through the 5 mile per hour buoys at the Bailey Cove Boat Launch when a dog jumped into the water. 60-year-old Geordan White jumped in to catch the dog, but soon began having difficulties and called for help. A flotation device was thrown and he held onto it, but then slipped underwater and did not resurface. The dog was able get out of the water safely. White’s body was recovered by the sheriff’s Office Dive Team on Saturday.
