Man Faces 18 Charges From 3 Different Cases Including Fatal Hit-&-Run

A 36-year-old man has been ordered to face 18 charges from 3 different Shasta County cases following a preliminary hearing last week. At around 3AM last June 19th, a big Ford F-350 was southbound on Balls Ferry Road near Trefoil Lane at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control and struck a large log, knocking it into a 41-year-old man and killing him. The crash caused the truck to get high-centered on the log. The driver was gone when the CHP arrived on scene. An investigation led the CHP to identify the driver as Spencer Robert Earl Reno. Last July Reno was pursued by officers after a reckless drunk driving incident in Cottonwood, and eventually arrested with a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit. A few days later officers arrived with an arrest warrant at Reno’s home in Red Bluff. He apparently tried to flee on foot but was captured and arrested again. Reno also faces charges for an incident last March 30th involving assault with a deadly weapon and false imprisonment inside a vehicle, as well as a hit-and-run the very next day. Reno returns to court May 13th. He remains in custody on a Half Million Dollars bail.
