A Redding man was sentenced Thursday to spend the rest of his life in prison for the murders of his grandparents. 32-year-old Colton Wayne Rhone killed 76-year-old Julian Uranga and 73-year-old Karen Uranga with a kitchen knife and a fire extinguisher inside their home on Old Oasis Road toward the end of December of 2021. Rhone had been living in a travel trailer on the property. The deceased couple bodies were discovered the morning of New Year’s Eve by their daughter, Rhone’s mother. On July 21st a jury returned guilty verdicts for first degree murder, second degree murder and first degree residential burglary. The following day the sanity portion of the trial got underway and the jury found that Rhone was sane when he committed the crimes. Rhone expressed remorse at his sentencing Thursday before he was ordered to serve multiple life sentences without the possibility of parole.
