The California Energy Commission has made a final decision to deny the Fountain Wind Project. The proposed wind farm in the Montgomery Creek area would have involved up to 48 turbines with a maximum height of 610 feet, much larger than the existing turbines on Hatchet Ridge above Burney. There was a highly motivated opposition from residents, tribal leaders and the county government. The appeal to the state followed emphatic denials by the Shasta County Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors. The final decision was issued on Friday.
