MP 18 Fire Continues To Burn In Rugged Terrain Near Hoopa

Highway 96 remains closed due to the MP 18 fire north of Hoopa, which has burned 6,971 acres in steep and rugged terrain. It’s now 20% contained. Evacuation orders and warnings remain in effect. Additional crews have been arriving from outside the area.

A fire broke out Monday afternoon along Interstate 5 and Flume Creek Road in the Castella area of Northern Shasta County. The smoke and the presence of firefighting equipment forced the closure of the northbound slow lane of the freeway. The fire was held to less than an acre.

An outbuilding went up in flames Monday night on Black Canyon Road near Pensacola in Shasta Lake City.
