Nash Ranch Prevails in Haunted House Permit Challenge

A local seasonal farm attraction has prevailed after their operation faced an appeal filed by a competitor. Nash Ranch on Old Oregon Trail runs a harvest and Halloween pumpkin patch and haunted house in the Fall each year. Their permit was challenged by a complaint filed by Hawes Farm on Deschutes Road, which operates a similar set of attractions. Hawes had alleged that the Nash haunted house and supporting infrastructure, including a bridge, was substandard and should require a zoning change. Hawes went through years of struggles to get their own zoning change from agricultural to commercial approved. Apparently the rules have changed and such temporary seasonal events can now be done under an administrative permit and a full zoning change is not required.
