Following a statement last week by Redding Police about New Life Discovery Project, the non-profit organization has released their own statement. The RPD said New Life, which uses motels downtown and on North Market Street for transitional housing, has clientele that commit crimes and occupy an inordinate amount of police resources. New Life says they serve only locals and they do not house registered sex offenders. Every night around 300 of their clients get a safe place to sleep, meals and continued counseling and assistance to help them toward independence. This year so far they’ve helped 217 people transition into permanent housing. They say they’ve invited Redding Police to tour their facilities, but so far they have not responded.
