After a few years that have seen high rates of death among inmates at Shasta County Jail, a new medical provider will begin service in June. During Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, Sheriff Michael Johnson introduced the CEO of the new provider, Dr. Kaveh Ofogh. Mediko’s contract is around $3 Million more than the cost of Wellpath, but county staff believe the savings in litigation from wrongful death lawsuits makes it a reasonable trade-off.
