Although it’s been operating for more than a week, the official ribbon cutting ceremony is Thursday for an ambitious project in the heart of Downtown Redding. K2 Development’s “Redding Public Market” at 1551 Market Street occupies the ground floor of the Market Street Apartments. There are 12 new businesses arranged in a 16,100-square-foot space, creating 150 new local jobs. Eateries include hot dogs, burgers, Asian noodles, pizza, Cajun food, and ice cream as well as several small bars. The Public Market is in the middle of Redding’s new “entertainment zone”, which allows people to walk around on the sidewalks with open alcoholic drinks between 10AM and 10PM if they have a special wristband and a specially marked cup from a participating business. The Public Market’s grand opening weekend begins with a ceremony at 3:30PM Thursday afternoon.
