Oversized Load Weighing 1 Million Pounds Slows Traffic On Highway 44

There was a long line of frustrated drivers going east on Highway 44 toward Shingletown and beyond Thursday night. An enormously oversized load had previously been parked on Deschutes Road in Palo Cedro with mechanical issues. It got going Thursday night and when it began crawling through the hills east of Millville it was moving at only 5 miles an hour. A little after 9 ‘clock the CHP stopped the tractor-trailer in the passing lane west of Dersch Road so that the miles of backed-up traffic could clear. The CHP said the load was 20 feet wide and weighed in at a Million Pounds. The maximum weight of most loaded big rigs is 80,000 Pounds.
