A Detective Sergeant with Paradise Police suffered severe injuries when he was struck by an allegedly drunk driver. John Alvies was listed in critical condition but he’s expected to survive after multiple surgeries. Friday night he had been assisting at the Butte County Fair and was on his way out shortly after Midnight. He was in a Paradise Police vehicle on Highway 99 and was passing Rio Bonito Road when he was broadsided on the driver’s side by a Dodge Journey driven by 37-year-old Amie Kucera of Oroville. She apparently had run the stop sign. The CHP says there were open alcohol containers in her vehicle and she was arrested for DUI. There were two children with her as well. A 6-year-old girl was flown to UC Davis and an 8-year-old was taken to Enloe Hospital.
