Park Service Plans 135 Acre Prescribed Burn Near Manzanita Lake

A prescribed burn is planned for Lassen Volcanic National Park this weekend. If conditions are right on Saturday or Sunday, crews plan to torch a total of 135 acres in the northwest corner of the park near Manzanita Lake. Park Service Officials say much of the burn area has been treated in recent years to reduce stand density and ladder fuels. Lassen Park has for many years been using prescribed fire to manage growth in a way that mimics a natural landscape that existed prior to modern forest management practices.
