A guard at a federal prison in Lassen County pled guilty Thursday to smuggling a large quantity of drugs into the inmate population. 35-year-old Antonio Ramirez was a correctional officer at the Federal Correctional Institution in Herlong. At the beginning of his overnight shift he smuggled almost 2 Pounds of Methamphetamine and 4.5 Ounces of Heroin into the prison. He bypassed a security screening, hid the drugs in a laundry room and told an inmate where to find the stash. For his trouble he was paid $15,000. The inmate was caught by other correctional officers and the drugs were recovered. Ramirez will be sentenced in January, and he could be sent to prison for life and be fined up to $10 Million.
