Supporters of a ballot measure that’s been blocked by a Shasta County Judge have filed an appeal with a higher court. The measure seeks to change the way elections are done. The measure calls for hand-counted elections, to be completed in a single day, with limited exceptions for mail-in ballots, and for a photo ID requirement. Shasta County Judge Ben Hanna made a preliminary ruling last week that the measure cannot appear on the ballot because it contains provisions that would violate state elections laws. Laura Hobbs and her fellow petitioners have hired Attorney Alexander Haberbush to handle the case in the Third District California Appeals Court. He’s the same lawyer who successfully challenged the county’s refusal to write a title and summary for the measure.
