Rangers Rescue Florida Man Who Broke His Leg While Climbing Mount Shasta

Another challenging rescue has had to be done on Mount Shasta. A 39-year-old man from Florida had made it to the summit by way of the Avalanche gGulch route but got lost on the way down and ended up on Whitney Glacier. At around 12,600 feet elevation he stepped into a small crevasse and broke his leg. He called for help Sunday evening and two climbing rangers headed up Monday morning. They reached him but the weather was too poor for an extraction. The rangers stayed with the man overnight and a team reached them Tuesday to strap the climber into a litter and carry him down the mountain.
