The Redding City Council will meet behind closed doors prior to their regular meeting Tuesday. One item on the closed session agenda is a lawsuit filed against the city by a former Redding Police Officer. The suit filed last January by September Wynhoff alleges sexual harassment, followed by retaliation when she reported it. Wynhoff was hired in December of 2022 and was fired in November of 2023. She says she was subjected to debilitating sexual harassment by co-workers, who spread rumors that she had sexual relations with five other officers. The suit also says she was told by superior officers to be more brutal with suspects when apprehending them. When Wynhoff told commanders that she was a domestic violence victim, she says she was subsequently written up for falling behind on her reports, and alleges that she was told that she was a victim because she made poor choices in men. After her dismissal Wynhoff says she had a hard time getting another job in law enforcement because of her history at the RPD. She eventually found employment as a Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Deputy. The suit seeks at least $3 Million plus legal costs.
