After more than 50 years of hosting concerts and other evens the Redding Civic Auditorium will be closing its doors. The Redding City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to send out a request for proposals to find a new operator for the Civic Auditorium. The council also decided not to provide financial support to keep the venue running during that process. Many community members urged the council to do whatever it takes to keep the facility open, but several members said the city is not in a financial position to subsidize the venue open at this time. Advance Redding, the current operator of the Civic Auditorium, says without financial help from the city, they’re unable to keep the venue afloat while a new operator is found.City leaders say the process of finding a new operator could take several months. They not yet announced an official closing date, but city officials expect that announcement in the coming days.Right now, there are 17 shows booked at the Civic Auditorium between now and the end of the year, but as of now, it’s unclear which of those will be canceled.
