Redding Driver Dies in Flood Waters

There was at least one fatality during the flooding Sunday in Redding. Mayor Mike Littau tells KQMS that a vehicle was caught in deep water between Buenaventura and Wyndham Lane where South Market Street goes under the railroad trestle. The male driver called 911 but dispatchers lost contact during the call. Redding Police attempted a rescue, swimming across the water and breaking a window to pull the driver out. CPR was attempted but it was too late and the driver died after arriving at Shasta Regional Medical Center. The Shasta County Coroner’s Office has identified the driver as 74-year-old Richard Michael Wilsey of Redding. His family has been notified.
