The burn season for backyard piles has been extended by Redding Fire Department until further notice. A burn permit must be in hand, and is available for free at cityofredding.gov/burnpermit. Officials say residents should take the opportunity to clear vegetation from around their homes before hot weather makes it dangerous to do so. Cal Fire units for Shasta, Trinity, Tehama and Glenn Counties are requiring burn permits starting Friday, which can be acquired for free online at burnpermit.fire.ca.gov. Burning can only be done after confirming it’s a burn day by calling 224-8777 in Shasta County or 527-3717 in Tehama County. A lot of information is at readyforwildfire.org.
