It will apparently cost about $117,000 a month for the city to maintain the Redding Civic Auditorium even while it is shut down. That’s according to a report Community Services Director Travis Menne will present to the council Tuesday night. The proposal comes nearly three weeks after the last event — Redding’s Fourth of July Freedom Festival — was held under former operator Advance Redding. The nonprofit announced in May it will no longer operate the Civic after the council rejected a plan to give Advance Redding a five-month, $400,000 lifeline to keep its doors open. It would have been the second grant from the city to Advance Redding this year and would have brought the total to $864,000 in stopgap funding. The council is also looking for a new operator for the facility
