REU Begins Series Of Public Workshops On Proposed Rate Increases

Redding Electric Utility will host a rate adjustment workshop Thursday as they try to educate the public on the need for a substantial rate increase of 18%. The proposal is for four consecutive years of 4.5% rate hikes. REU says it’s necessary because of a rise in power supply costs at the Redding Power Plant, investments in infrastructure and regulatory mandates. Thursday’s workshop from 5PM to 7PM will be at the Shasta Builders Exchange on Hartnell Avenue. Three workshops will take place next week: at Mercy Oaks Tuesday Noon to 2PM, the Senior Center off Benton Drive Wednesday 5PM to 7PM and the MLK Center on Sheridan Street Thursday 6PM to 8PM. A detailed presentation will be made at the City Council Meeting March 17th.
