REU Rates May Rise 18% Over 4 Years

A major increase of 18% is in the works for Redding Electric Utility. The proposal is for four consecutive years of 4.5% rate increases. REU says the increase is necessary because of a rise in power supply costs at the Redding Power Plant of more than $20 Million, investments in infrastructure and regulatory mandates. Two public workshops on the rate boost will be held next Thursday at Noon and 5PM and a public hearing will be held at the next City Council Meeting March 3rd.
