Redding Police Chief Brian Barner has apparently been placed on administrative leave, though it’s unclear why. Captain Brian Cole has been named as the Acting Chief, according to a memo sent to the department by Interim City Manager Kari Kibler. As far as reasons are concerned, city officials have only stated that it’s a personnel matter and no information is being made available. Barner has been with the department for 29 years and was promoted from Captain to Chief in 2023 after the retirement of Bill Shueller.
