RPD Officers Cleared Of Wrongdoing For 2024 Shooting

Redding Police have been cleared of wrongdoing in a non-fatal officer-involved shooting from April of 2024. Two Redding Police Park Rangers had told two trespassers to leave undeveloped private property near the cross of Hartnell and East Cypress Avenues. 38-year-old Cody Levi Bailey verbally threatened the officers and threw a rock at them, which missed, then walked away eastbound along East Cypress with both officers following him on foot. He had a knife in his hand and when another officer confronted him near Lowden Lane Bailey refused to drop the knife and he was shot. No officers were injured. Bailey ended up pleading no contest to several charges including assault with a deadly weapon on peace officers, and he was sentenced to nearly 20 years in state prison.
