Redding Police arrested two men Thursday in Downtown Redding after an apparent armed robbery attempt in a bank parking lot. At around Noon, officers were called to the U.S. Bank on Pine Street, where they found the suspect vehicle occupied by 41-year-old Nathaniel Espino of Shingletown and 22-year-old James Forguson of Nevada. A pistol could be seen near the center console, and it turned out to be loaded. The two were not cooperative when told to get out of the car and when officers tried to pull Forguson from the passenger seat he reportedly tried to lunge back into the car. Pepper spray and Lido the K9 were used on him and both men were taken into custody and eventually booked into jail. Witnesses said the men had cruised through the parking lot several times before stopping next to a woman and asking her for money. She said Espino was holding the gun but did not point it at her. She told a security guard about the incident and he called police.
