High pressure scam artists have been making a lot of phone calls lately. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office has been getting reports of callers claiming to be law enforcement saying the call taker has a warrant or has missed jury duty or some other legal matter. They tell the victim they can pay to clear it up. A skillful scam involves gathering details about the target from social media or other sources, so it sounds like a legitimate call. No law enforcement agency makes phone calls to collect fines, but such calls should be reported.
