Sentencing Delayed For Man Convicted Of Fatal Stabbing At Transitional Housing Facility

Sentencing for a convicted Shasta County murderer has been delayed so the court can hear a motion for a new trial. 28-year-old Matthew Jacob Riddle was convicted September 9th for the stabbing death of 42-year-old Cy Jonathon Johnson on September 26th of last year at Stability Solutions off Collyer Drive, a transitional living facility. Riddle was quickly apprehended by Redding Police who saw him running across Highway 299. The two men had apparently been involved in a fight after Riddle falsely accused Johnson of being a sex offender. After the fight, Riddle found a kitchen knife and stabbed Johnson multiple times in the stomach. The jury found him guilty of first degree murder and sentencing had been set for last week. The motion for a new trial will be heard on November 6th.
