There are a number of typos and misspelled words in the ballot materials recently sent out by the Shasta County Elections Office. With a quick proofread, most of the mistakes are easy to spot, such as misspellings of words such as “next”, “affect” and “approval”. There’s also an incorrect date for the end of the District One Congressional Term, which says January 2nd but it’s actually January 3rd. What’s more concerning is an error made in the voter information guide that was mailed prior to ballots being sent. It says mailed and postmarked ballots must be received in the elections office by June 2nd but that is incorrect. Ballots need only be postmarked on or before June 2nd and can arrive in the Elections Office up to 7 days after that. Voters who mail in their ballots are advised to do it sooner than later, but there is a concern that the error may cause some voters to give up if they think there’s not enough time for the ballot to get there.
