A major error has been made on Shasta County’s ballot, but it’s unclear what, if anything, will be done about it. Sharlene Tipton is running unopposed for Redding City Clerk. She was appointed in 2023 to complete the term vacated by Pam Mize. Tipton filed to run for the position but the Elections Office failed to place her name on the ballot. The law requires that any open office be included, even if there is no opponent. It’s unclear whether correcting the error is necessary, in light of the substantial cost in doing so.
