For almost a year, inmates at Shasta County Jail have been unable to have face-to-face visits with friends or family members. That long lonely spell ends on Tuesday when in-person visits will be allowed to resume. Contact has been limited to video calls or phone calls, which are costly for prisoners, though the cost of those calls has recently been reduced. The visitor suspension began last September when a construction project started on the elevator that carries outsiders to the visiting area. Completion of the project has taken several times longer than anticipated.
