The procedures for elections as defined by Measure B will not be implemented for the November election. A Shasta County Superior Court Judge has granted the State a preliminary injunction to suspend the changes called for in the measure, which was approved in Shasta County in June. For the upcoming election, all registered voters will receive a ballot in the mail, as dictated by state law. The county will begin mailing ballots October 5th. The lawsuit filed by California’s Attorney General and Secretary of State is continuing to be heard in Shasta County Superior Court. The state is attempting to permanently bar the measure, which calls for major changes in how elections are run. It got approval from 56% of voters, but the state says the changes it calls for are in violation of state law. The lawyer representing the measure’s supporters is still trying to preserve as many of the measure’s provisions as possible. The Shasta County Board of Supervisors is not legally backing the measure, and has barred the the Registrar of Voters from doing so either.
