An intensive search was done for a man suspected of terrorizing some people with an axe at the northern edge of Redding. at 6:20 Thursday night Shasta County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to Manzanoaks Drive off Oasis Road. A resident said her nephew, John Yu, had assaulted another occupant of the home with an axe and smashed up the interior of the house as the other occupants fled upstairs and locked themselves in a bedroom. Yu reportedly followed them and struck the bedroom door with the axe while speaking incoherently. When deputies arrived they say they saw Yu fleeing on foot with the axe in his hand. An extensive search of the area was done with the help of a K9 and a drone, but Yu was not found. Area residents were cautioned to shelter in place through Alert Shasta. The assault victim was taken to a hospital with injuries including lacerations to his head and hands, and a broken forearm.
