A 46-year-old man from Shasta Lake is dead from injuries suffered in a crash overnight north of Redding. At 12:36AM a 2001 Oldsmobile was southbound on Old Oregon Trail near Grande Vista Lane when it left the wet pavement on a right hand curve and crashed through two mailbox clusters before coming to stop at a dirt embankment. The driver, who was traveling alone, was wearing his seatbelt but suffered critical injuries and was trapped in the car. He was extricated by fire personnel and transported to Mercy Medical Center, where he pronounced dead. The driver’s identity has not been released. The CHP does not suspect drugs or alcohol.
