Siskiyou County Elementary School Alarmed by Nearby Wolves

Wolves have apparently been seen near an elementary school in rural Siskiyou County, prompting the Sheriff’s Office and the Board of Supervisors to declare a state of emergency. The sighting was reported in the mid-morning on Friday near Little Shasta Elementary School in the area of Hovey Gulch and Harry Cash Roads. Students were kept indoors for the remainder of the school day and a report was made to the county Wolf Liaison. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has been taking harsher measures as wolves in some areas have been less likely to be fearful of noise or the presence of people.
