Things will be slowing down between Redding and Millville. Caltrans is permanently reducing the speed limit to 55 miles an hour on Highway 44 from just east of Airport Road all the way to Millville Plains Road. Traffic studies have shown that collision rates in the current 65 mile an hour zone are in line with state averages for similar highways. However, the collision rate east of Millville where it’s already a 55 zone is less than half the statewide average. The new speed limit goes into effect starting April 2nd.
