Residents of the Mount Shasta area are concerned about a Mountain Lion in their midst, but authorities say the concerns are misplaced. The juvenile female lion has a history. She’s called “F29” and last month she was orphaned near Weed. State Fish and Wildlife Rangers rescued her and she was rehabilitated and fitted with a GPS collar, then last month she was released in a remote area of the Trinity Alps. She traveled over a wide area and found her way back to her home range of Weed and Mount Shasta, where she’s apparently been making a diet of poultry and small animals. Officials say she’s not a threat to humans and an assessment of her behavior does not justify killing her, but rather capturing her and relocating her again. Until that’s done, residents of that area are advised to keep their pets close.
