“Stay Ready, Shasta” Launches Urging Wildfire Risk Reduction

A new public safety campaign has been launched by Cal Fire/Shasta County Fire Department called “Stay Ready, Shasta”. It’s designed to help residents take practical steps to reduce wildfire risk and be better prepared. In the last few years Shasta County has seen multiple major fires that burned nearly a Half Million Acres and destroyed almost 2,500 homes. The campaign is in support of Shasta County’s updated Defensible Space Ordinance, requiring property owners in unincorporated areas of the county to reduce hazardous vegetation and maintain adequate clearance around structures. Residents can find preparedness information and apply for the “Defensible Space Assistance Program” at stayreadyshasta.com.
