Supervisors Approve New $8.1 Million Contract For Medical Care At The Shasta County Jail

A new medical provider has been selected to care for inmates in Shasta County Jail. On Tuesday the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved an $8.1 Million, three year contract with Mediko, Inc. Sheriff Michael Johnson says the plan increases medical staffing, strengthens mental health services and improves continuity of care for inmates entering and leaving custody. The jail has had an unusually high rate of in-custody deaths in recent years.
