Last week Shasta County’s Health Officer declared a public health crisis due to a shortage of practicing physicians. At Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, Matt Plummer pressed Doctor James Mu for some specifics. Mu said the most obvious indicator of a doctor shortage is the length of time patients must wait just to get an appointment. He said the problem has been clear for a long time and the medical community has been trying to address it. Doctor mu said his declaration of a public health crisis was done not because it’s a new problem, but because it’s a topic of conversations lately.
