Supervisors May Approve 192K To Comply With State Open Meeting Law

The Shasta County Board of Supervisors will consider purchasing a software subscription that eases public participation in meetings. Last year the State Legislature passed a law that requires counties with populations over 30,000 to find ways to facilitate remote participation by members of the public. During the Covid pandemic, the board used a telephone and voice mail system that required a staff member to operate it during meetings. Although the county chambers just underwent an expensive technical upgrade, it apparently does not include the technology to ease compliance with the new law. On Tuesday the board may approve spending $192,000 over the next five years for the new software.
